Safety Supervisor (Biotech)

Job Description and Responsibilities

Interpro Pipe & Steel has a new opening for a Safety Supervisor at our facility in Edmonton, Alberta. The incumbent will be responsible to ensure employee safety, OS&H compliance and Edmonton Safety Program Compliance. Health, Safety and Environment.

  • Promotes an incident-free work environment by developing programs that routinely train, monitor and assure a safe and compliant workplace
  • Investigates accidents to identify causes or to determine how such accidents might be prevented
  • Recommends methods to help protect workers from potentially hazardous work methods, processes, or materials
  • Develops, plans and implements programs to train managers, supervisors, and employees in work-site safety practices, hazard recognition, and control compliance
  • Conducts safety training or education programs and demonstrates the use of safety equipment
  • Provides new-employee health and safety orientations
  • Maintains or updates emergency response plans or procedures
  • Responsible for compiling and submitting accident/injury reports required by regulatory agencies
  • Assists with audits of organization facilities to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, determines corrective or preventative measures where indicated, and follows up to insure measures have been implemented
  • Assist site leadership in working knowledge of OS&H regulations and assist site during inspections and investigations, providing local management with the expertise to interpret regulatory compliance issues
  • Audits and reports on department safety programs
  • Reviews written safety programs for effectiveness and compliance
  • Provides technical safety support to all department personnel
  • Assists in environmental issues and compliance, as needed
  • Coordinates right-to-know programs regarding hazardous chemicals or other substances
  • Act as an expert resource to Joint Workplace Health & Safety Committees

Requirements

  • Post Secondary Education in Occupational Health & Safety or Equivalent
  • 5 years' experience in Safety and Health in a manufacturing facility
  • 1-3 years of Safety program management experience and training
  • Thorough knowledge of OSHA regulations
  • Heavy Manufacturing experience in an industrial setting
  • Candidate should be mechanically inclined to review, comprehend and recommend effective solutions as they relate to safety and compliance issues
  • Effective leadership skills
  • Knowledgeable in Microsoft Excel, Access and Word
  • Proven ability to organize and motivate teams for safe, high-quality results and maximum productivity
