Senior Accountant (Fixed Term) Montreal, Quebec (Project Management)



Senior Accountant – Business Assurance

Reporting directly to the Financial Controller, the Senior Accountant, Business Assurance is responsible for ensuring that all financial transactions are accurately recorded and compliant with applicable accounting standards, legal requirements, and internal control policies established by Group Finance. 

The Senior Accountant plays a pivotal role in supporting month-end and year-end close processes, preparing financial reports, and maintaining robust documentation to support audits and tax filings. This position also serves as a liaison between the Finance team and other departments, including the Tax Department, internal and external auditors, and the Shared Service Centre, providing timely and accurate financial data as needed. Success in this role requires a deep understanding of accounting principles, strong analytical and organizational skills, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment while upholding the highest standards of accuracy and integrity.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure timely and accurate recording of financial transactions in accordance with GAAP and company policies.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports.
  • Support the Financial Controller in maintaining internal controls and ensuring compliance with corporate governance standards, including intercompany transactions.
  • Coordinate with the Shared Service Centre to resolve accounting discrepancies and ensure smooth transactional processing.
  • Liaise with internal and external auditors, providing requested information and facilitating audit processes.
  • Collaborate with the Tax Department to provide necessary documentation and support for tax filings and audits for federal, state, and provincial returns.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis as required.
  • Maintain detailed documentation and reconciliations for key accounts.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant financial regulations and corporate policies.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA designation or progress toward CPA preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within a corporate or multi-entity environment.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting standards (e.g., US GAAP, IFRS).
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or similar) is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet tight deadlines.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and analytical thinking.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.  Bilingual (English and French) preferred as the position will entail communication daily with colleagues both in Quebec and outside of Quebec.
