This is for a hybrid and full-time role in Ottawa, ON Canada.

Position Summary
 
Thales Canada, Defence & Security is engaged in supporting the Canadian Army's Land Command, Control, Communications & Computers (C4) Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (LC4ISR) systems which enable critical decisions on a daily basis.  Together with industry partners, Thales is building on the existing networks and applications to enhance digitized operations, support communications between joint and allied forces, and monitor and defend against the threats and evolving capabilities of potential adversaries.
 

Thales Canada is looking for recent graduates interested in directly contributing to the evolution of advanced digitized operations for the Canadian Army into the future, both in Canada and on overseas deployments as part of our agile teams.

•    Requires direct or indirect access to hardware, software, technology or technical data controlled under the Canadian Export Control List, the ITAR or the EAR
•    Requires a positive Controlled Goods assessment as you will have direct  access to hardware, software, technology or technical data controlled under the Canadian Controlled Goods Program
•    Required to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance at the NATO Secret Level

Key Areas of Responsibility 

A junior systems engineer operates in multidisciplinary and collaborative teams, taking on tasks such as:

•    Develop the preliminary and detailed designs for system and subsystem elements;
•    Identify, characterize, and analyze issues in the system or its design through problem reports and document and design reviews; 
•    Estimate and appropriately decompose work in an agile lifecycle process;
•    Provide timely and accurate status updates;
•    Assess the impact of planned changes on the existing system;
•    Author or review technical documentation to capture the system and subsystem designs including the architecture, interfaces, and installation elements;
•    Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure the designs are consistent with needs, desires, and concerns of the end-users;
•    Support the development of verification and validation artifacts including plans and procedures;
•    Collaborate with other functions during the implementation and integration of the system and subsystem designs; 
•    Resolution of technical issues arising during the implementation, integration and testing of the system and subsystem elements; and/or
•    Support the installation and/or integration testing of the systems remotely or on customer site;
 

OBJECTIVE: To provide products and customer solutions in consistency with all stakeholders' needs and entity policies, as well as continuously enhance engineering competitiveness.

Basic Qualifications
 

•    University or college degree in engineering or a related discipline; and
•    Ability to obtain clearances as specified under the Regulatory Compliance section, below.
 

Other experience that would be preferred:

Any kind of professional experience in the design and integration of complex systems or software would be an asset. Windows 10/11 and Java experience.

Physical Demands

Minimal lifting of test and electronic equipment, connecting equipment in a lab environment or job site (including onboard vehicle or vessel).

Special Position Requirements

Hybrid position. Full time, standard business hours.  

Possibility of occasional travel to customer site for technical support / integration activities.

Possibility of occasional travel within Canada for planning events.

The reference Total Target Compensation(TTC) market range for this position, inclusive of annual base salary and the variable compensation target, is between

Total Target Cash (TTC): 68,638.73 - 91,518.30 - 114,259.50 CAD Annual

This reflects how companies in a similar industry and geographic region generally pay for similar jobs. This range helps the Company make pay decisions as one data point among many. Where a position falls within this range is also dependent on other factors including – but not limited to – the employee's career path history, competencies, skills, and performance, as well as the company's annual salary budget, the customer's program requirements, and the company's internal equity. Thales may offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant's status protected by local, state, or federal law.
